Rosé Release & Parsnip Chicken Recipe
Warm weather is here and so is TANIS 2008 Blushing Beauty Rosé! Chilled and delightful on a warm day, this Rosé tastes great by itself, and is even better with food..from hotlinks on toothpicks to festive summer feasts by the pool! Tanis 2008 Rosé is fantastically fresh, fruity and completely dry!
Tanis 2008 Blushing Beauty Rosé (60% Mourvedre 40% Grenache) Tasting Notes:
Juicy, mouth-watering flavors allow this wine to cross all kinds of food barriers. Tasty with grilled fish, poultry with figs, duck with plum sauce, or any dish that combines meats and natural fruits. A rich Rosé, firmly dry, yet fully fruity, with lip-smacking flavors. Easily handles roast chicken, barbecued turkey, or any game bird, especially with generous sides of squash and root vegetables.
Try TANIS Blushing Beauty Rosé with this great Parsnip Chicken Recipe! It's a keeper!
Does your chicken all too often seem to be all about the parts? ...buffalo wings, skinless breasts, ...'tenders'! This recipe gets back to basics and stands up for the whole bird, roasted in a pot with veggies! Simple, yet a satisfyingly wonderful one-dish meal!
1-2 bottles chilled Tanis Blushing Beauty Rose
1 3-4 lb. free range organic chicken
3/4 cup organic free range chicken broth
1 large Meyer lemon (the sweeter variety), halved
Fresh rosemary sprigs
Fresh thyme sprigs
3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
4 Tbsp. butter, softened
Salt and black pepper
4 small red onions, halved
8 small red potatoes, halved
4 medium carrots, peeled
4 medium parsnips, peeled
TNT Garlic and Herb Oil or Extra-virgin olive oil
1) Open the blushing beauty. Pour yourself and your helper a glass. Sip and enjoy.
2) Preheat oven to 450. Rinse the chicken and pat it dry. Put chicken in a LARGE cast-iron skillet or roasting pan. Squeeze lemon all over the chicken, covering it inside and out with juice.
3) Stuff into the cavity of the chicken: the squeezed lemon halves, a big bushy handful of thyme, many soft tender weeping rosemary sprigs (if you need fresh rosemary come by the tasting room.. we have some!). Tie legs together (the chicken's) with kitchen string and rub butter all over. Season liberally with salt and pepper.
4) Cut vegetables as desired. Place in a large bowl and stir in 4-6 Tbs TNT garlic and herb oil and a bit of salt and pepper, coating veggies well. Arrange veggies around the whole chicken in the pan.
5) Place pan in oven and roast for 25 minutes, then baste chicken and vegetables with a mixture of 1/2 cup blushing beauty + 3/4 cup organic free range chicken broth. Reduce heat to 375.
Within minutes of putting the pan in the oven, you will begin to smell how delicious this meal is going to be.
6) Frequently check the chicken and baste with the juices in the pan as desired so that the skin becomes crisp and golden. The chicken will need at least another 45 minutes of roasting depending on size.
7) When the chicken is fully cooked, turn off heat and allow chicken to rest in the oven about 15 minutes more before carving. Garnish with more fresh rosemary and thyme sprigs if you like!
If you were able to not drink the entire bottle of blushing beauty while you were cooking, have the rest of the blushing beauty with the chicken. If you drank all the blushing beauty, open another bottle. Cheers!
Side notes: Make gravy from the drippings... delicious! Also, these chicken bones make an excellent broth!!! Boil the bones and make soup for sure!
Come visit us in August for a tasting of our new Blushing Beauty Rosé and more!

TANIS - May BBQ Recipe & New Wine!
May is a great time to come to TANIS!
There are many exceptional new varietals on the bar including Primitivo, Tempranillo, Petite Sirah, Barbera, TNT and "My Sweet Baby" Late Harvest Syrah.
Here's a wonderful recipe for you to try with our new Tanis Petite Sirah and it uses our Petite Sirah Port for the sauce:
Cranberry Blue Filet Mignon
Pairs well with Tanis Petite Sirah
3/4 cup frozen cranberries cut into halves
3/4 bottle Tanis Petite Sirah Port
5-6 small filet mignon steaks
1 cup blue cheese crumbles
Pappy's seasoning
Lightly sprinkle the filet steaks on both sides with Pappy's seasoning. BBQ the filet steaks on indirect heat to perfection. We suggest medium-rare. In a pan, simmer 3/4 cups halved cranberries and 3/4 bottle Petite Sirah Port. Reduce to a thick sauce. Serve filets topped with several spoonfuls of cranberry reduction sauce and generous crumbles of blue cheese.

April 2010 New Wine at TANIS: 2007 Tempranillo, TNT Dynamite Red, Petite Sirah & more!
For those of you who have been waiting for the Tempranillo...it is now ready, and it is outstanding! It's been in the bottle over two months and we popped the cork last night. Wow! You are definitely going to like this wine! Tempranillo is one of the most famous of the native Spanish varietals and it's easy to see why. Tempranillo is vibrant and aromatic and offers spicy, red fruit aromas and flavors. Our Tanis 2007 Tempranillo has wonderful hints of strawberry! The grape's name translates to "little early one," a title that references the fruit's early ripening tendency. Don't miss out on the TANIS 2007 Tempranillo. I know it's going to move fast.
Look out for the Dynamite Red! This year's TNT is an earthy Syrah blend with some very nice tobacco notes... a classy cigar in a glass! If you like a deep, bold, earthy wine, you are going to love the 2007 TNT! We recommend decanting this wine or popping the cork early in the day to let it breath.
What can I say about the Petite Sirah? ...Delicious! Come taste it!
We also snuck the new TANIS 2007 Zinfandel on the bar without telling anyone last month! We opened a bottle one night and couldn't wait to share, so there it is!
Come visit Tanis in April. The weather is superb, the drive is beautiful, and the wine is here! Tempranillo, TNT Dynamite Red, Petite Sirah & Zinfandel, not to mention last month's releases of the 07 Primitivo and new 'My Sweet Baby' Late Harvest Syrah. It's quite a line-up! You've gotta get out here!
Check back again soon. We will have food & wine pairing recipes for some of our new releases... Chef Mark is at it again!!!
Hope to see you soon,
Andrew & Jill
The TANIS 2007 Primitivo is Here!
February we are releasing our 2007 Primitivo and 2007 My Sweet Baby Late Harvest Syrah!
The Primitivo has vibrant, fresh fruity flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum. Rich mouth feel with slightly warm and spicy tannins. Hints of hazelnut and mocha. This excellent wine is smooth and structured. Don't miss out... The Primitivo was the first to sell out of our 2005 and 2006 vintages!
The 2007 TANIS "My Sweet Baby" Late Harvest Syrah is as tasty as the 2006 but with more fruit forward characteristics. It's definitely another 'Sweet Baby' to love!
For Valentine's Day and every weekend in February we will have a variety of chocolate candies available for sampling with our wines. Bring your sweetheart for great wine and tasty chocolate and a relaxing afternoon in the wine country! Valentine's Day weekend (Feb 13-14) 'My Sweet Baby' Late Harvest Syrah is 20% off with the mention of this post.
My Sweet Baby Late Harvest Syrah is not the only baby at Tanis... we also have a newly hatched chick! We love sharing some of the bright little moments of our life with you and hope it brings you some joy. Whether it's talking about things that matter with people who care over a great bottle of wine, or watching a chick hatch, life is full of special moments and we hope your year is filled with many of them. Watching the hatching made me think of life. It's a hard process for the chick to make his way out of the egg, yet he must go through it in order to survive and thrive. Maybe our life is like that in a way as well, with the dificulties we face being part of the process that allows us to finally "break out of our shells" in the end to a new life we never knew before. Come by and see the new chick!
Also, we now have farm fresh eggs for sale in the tasting room. Our happy chickens are laying delicious brown and green eggs. Have you ever seen a green egg? I'm told there are blue varieties too! The green eggs taste just like the brown and you can serve "Green Eggs & Ham!"
See you soon!
Jill & Andrew
Winter at Tanis Vineyards Winery!
(December 2009 Post)
Would you believe last week we were walking in a Winter Wonderland? The weather outside was frightful, but the wine was so delightful! Jack Frost was more than nipping at our nose, he was sitting on our wine barrels! It was so beautiful we still said, "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"
Thank you to everyone who has shown us kindness, caring and support this past year. We are very thankful to have our little tasting room open and we are glad to be a part of your everyday life and special celebrations through our wine on your table. Thank you to the many friends who came down to Clark's Corner for the Wine Tasting and Jazz Event. It was one of the most enjoyable nights out we've had in a long time!
Warmest of wishes to each and every one of you for a bright and beautiful holiday season. May your life and your home be blessed...
Whatever the New Year brings us in our personal lives or in the world, remember this wonderful quote with us:
All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.

Keep Shining,
Jill & Andrew

2007 TANIS PINOTAGE RELEASE! (September 2009 Post)

While some of us enjoy the last of the "Lazy Cat Days of Summer," the rest of us are working hard bottling and labeling our Tanis 2007's and crushing the 2009 harvest! What a fun, busy, crazy time of year this is for us!

NEW RELEASE!

The Tanis 2007 Pinotage is bottled and ready, and NEWLY RELEASED on the bar this coming weekend! (September 19th and 20th)
Crimson/purple and velvety smooth on the palate, our Tanis 2007 Pinotage has a dark, cedary, smoky oak and spicy vanilla nose. It reminds me of the smell of one of Uncle Doc's really good cigars. Peppery spice carries through to the palate, and lovely sweet berry fruits...cherry, cranberrry, hints of blueberry, linger with a silky mouthfeel. This Pinotage has taken a different direction from last years vintage. I'd describe it as sophisticated with a touch of something wild! Can't wait to try this one with spicy grilled lamb. Have a great recipe? Send it our way!
Our 2007 Sangiovese and many of our other 07 varietals will be coming soon. Some are already bottled and just waiting on labels. The 07 lineup is really going to be a great one. We can't wait to get them all on the bar to share with you!
Chicken update:
As you can see the chickens are growing and crowing! In just a month or two we should be making Farm Fresh Egg Frittatas!

If we don't watch out we may soon become known as Tanis Vineyards Winery and Home for Wayward Cats! Her offical name (with input from ALL those who care) is Shadow Abrielle Gracie Stellaluna Pugsley Blackie Tanis, but we're just going to call her Shadow for short.

A VERY LIMITED EDITION WINE BOTTLE!
The winter rains have been blessing the earth, but as the clouds clear up it feels like spring around Tanis Vineyards and some special things have been happening! The weekend before Valentine's Day, Steve and Kari (big Tanis Cabernet Franc fans!) came by the winery... but it was no ordinary visit.
Several weeks earlier, Steve had contacted us about the possibility of a specialty label...a very SPECIAL specialty label! With excitement, preparations were made.
And so at the end of their tasting, Steve calmly asked the question that was to trigger Andrew handing him the "very limited edition" wine bottle. You can imagine how overwhelmed and surprised Kari was when Steve got down on one knee and held the bottle up for her to read, "Kari, Will You Marry Me?"
And her answer? ... "Of Course!" The special proposal bottle not only had the perfect question, it got the perfect answer and was the very first bottle of our (not yet released) Tanis 2006 Cabernet Franc, Kari's favorite!
We were so happy to share in this moment, and wish Steve and Kari the very best. May their days be blessed and their life be fruitful!
